Challenging Injustice. Creating Opportunity.
Systemic injustice fuels cycles of poverty and violence
in marginalized communities.
We believe change is possible.
We pursue justice and equity by expanding access to
education, employment, and safe, supportive spaces.

The Poor Don’t Need Handouts—They Need Tools.
Tools like:
We serve in La Carpio, an at-risk urban community on the outskirts of San José, Costa Rica. It’s the largest informal settlement of immigrants in Central America—home to nearly 50,000 Central American migrants, primarily from Nicaragua, who fled their countries in search of a better life. Many, however, find themselves living in extreme poverty next to the capital city’s garbage dump, trapped in a cycle of systemic neglect, discrimination, and day-to-day survival.
At giveDIGNITY, we focus on long-term development, not short-term aid. We work with individuals from womb to adulthood, offering the specific tools they need at each stage of life—so they can build a future with hope.
When people are educated, employed in non-exploitative work, and living in safe, healthy families, they have the tools they need to rise out of poverty--without dependence on outside help.

- A safe environment
- An education
- Meaningful employment

Core Development Goals
Walking with marginalized people in their most pressing felt needs.
|
Education Education opens doors. We offer student sponsorships to remove financial barriers to education, and we invest in adult learning programs that build skills, confidence, and brighter futures. |
Work Skills for work. Tools for life. We empower adults to grow personally and professionally—expanding their opportunities as employees or entrepreneurs. |
Safe Spaces Preventing violence before it starts. We mentor young mothers in nurturing their children in safe homes; host community safety fairs to raise awareness about abuse; and strengthen at-risk girls to to value and protect themselves. |

An Aerial View of La Carpio:
Surrounded by two rivers, a sprawling garbage dump, and a sewage treatment plant,
La Carpio is geographically isolated, connected to the outside world by a single road.
