giveDIGNITY's employment initiative
Productive work gives value and worth
More than 20% of youth in Latin America are neither studying nor looking for work. This percentage is much higher in marginalized communities. Most employers are willing to train the job-specific skills they need their employees to have, but they want to hire people who already have the necessary "soft skills." Therefore, giveDIGNITY provides a 16-week Jobs for Life course that prepares people with the soft skills needed for the workforce and helps them identify their skills and interests, opportunities, and a go-forward vocational plan with specific steps in order to meet their work-related goals. Course participants graduate with interviewing skills, a resume and letter of recommendation, and a lot of practical experience looking and applying for work. All of the 30 graduates thus far have taken steps in their vocational plan to pursue further education or training, or have found gainful employment and kept it since graduating from Jobs for Life. The Jobs For Life program helps the participant understand their true identity, develop the character necessary to find a job, and have the dignity of providing for their family, while connecting them to a community of support.
